Boy's Dormitory 5 (Tom, Evan)

Evan nods, mentally crossing off the possibilities. Moving over to the bed, he kneels in front of Penny. He waves his wand in front of her eyes, muttering a couple of useful little charms. His eyes narrow at the results.

"Your head's been messed with so much, it's a wonder it's still on your bloody shoulders, kid. D'you not have any mental defences at all?"

Penny flinched as Evan got right up in her personal space. "I-It's not my fault if people decide to fuck with my head! obviously i suck at taking care of myself."

Evan pushes himself up, then sits on the bed beside her. He leaves a few inches between them and makes no move to touch her, because he has no idea how to comfort her.
"Shoulda taught you better. Shoulda made fuckin' sure you could take care of yourself. We're gonna keep working on that, right away, you hear me? Isn't there anything you can think of? Someone you got in a fight with, someone whose got it in for you?"

she nodded slowly, once again feeling like a child who did something bad. "I-no I don't think so...well...unless. well. i tried out to be seeker for the quidditch team, and this new guy tried out too...but he won. after elbowing me in the fuckin face of course. but still. i don't see why he'd hold a grudge..." she wrapped her arms around herself. she knew she'd get no hugs here

Evan nods, looking away because somehow this was even more embarrassing to him than the safe-sex talk, without at least being funny for spectators. Because in reality this is making me kinda sad. Anyway, back to the action. Evan files away that piece of information for later investigation. Sounds unlikely, given this other guy had beat her (she should've elbowed him before he got her!) but you never knew. Might be something more to it.

"What's his name?"

she shook her head, trying to remember "Barty something or other I think?" her head hurt from the events of the past 24 hours.

Evan stores the name away. Well if they were trying out for Seeker together, he had to be a Slytherin, and how many 'Barty's could there be in one house, anyway? He'd ask around, someone would know. He makes a low, angry noise.

"I'm gonna figure this out, Penny. Then I'm gonna kill the bastard responsible."

[i'm just gonna respond to this now so i don't forget!]

Penny shuddered. she had no doubt in Evan's abilities, and truthfully, it scared her a little bit. she nodded and continued to hold herself to keep herself from completely falling apart. one more tear slipped down her face. so Evan and Marcus had a common goal now. maybe Evan would stop wanting to rip out his throat.

Evan keeps his eyes fixed on a spot just over Penny's shoulder because he can't look her in the face right now. She's a complete mess. It's not that she's a mess that disgusts him, it's that she's a mess because he wasn't there, hadn't done his job properly. His jaw clenches. Where the fuck had Flint been? Guy was glued to her side every time Evan turns around, and the one time she needs him there, he's nowhere to be found. It's bullshit. The whole thing is bullshit, and Evan has no idea how to make it better. He just knows that heads will roll. He's focusing so hard on NOT focusing on Penny that it takes a while for him to realise she's shaking. His eyes flicker to her face for a moment and he zeros in on the tears. Shit.

"Are ya...." he stops and clears his throat. "Are you hurt?"

Penny turned her head to him, slightly shocked. "n-not really...I want to know wh-what happened. wh-why i'm beat to hell and why i can't fucking remember anything" more tears fell silently down her face and she subconsciously leaned into Evan just the slightest bit

Evan has no idea what to do. He wants to punch someone. But the only person here right now is his sister, and she's done nothing to deserve that right now. She's been through enough hell. A look of intense hatred and anguish passes over his face for a split second before he manages to lock it away. It seems like his arms know what to do better than his brain does - he wraps one tentatively around her shoulders. He pauses. Then his other arm comes up, pulling her against his chest in a proper hug.

Penny lets out a small, shocked gasp but appreciates the hug all the same. maybe he doesn't blame her for what happened to her. she leans into him more and whispers "thank you" she closes her eyes and relaxes into one of the very rare hugs she ever gets from her older brother

[Did I read that right? Did Evan just hug someone?? -gasp-]

Something's taken over Evan a little bit, because his instincts are telling him to do things he knows he never would. There's visions of all the ways in which he wants to -AND WILL- torture the fucker who did this to her running through his head, but somehow that isn't enough. He wants to take it back, wants it to have not happened to her at all. Arms tightening around her, he kisses the top of her head.

"S'alright, Pen."

Penny is shocked by Evan's gestures and vaguely wonders how long this will last. she has no idea how to react to him so she just sits there and lets him hold her, wishing to all hell this wasn't real. she pulls back a little to wipe the tears from her face, trying to get collected.

Penny's movements shock Evan back into life. He pulls away from her and clears his throat.

"Right. You should go get cleaned up."

she looks up and him and then away, feeling the awkwardness of the moment. "right. um yea. i'll uhh talk to you later?" she stood up and started walking towards the door, pulling her collar back up and her sleeves back down

Evan nods.

"I'm gonna take care of it, Pen."

He turns away so he doesn't have to look at her any more and see exactly how much he's failed her.

"right...bye" she says softly and slips out of the dorm

Evan is in here because I forgot to write him in when I left the Fireplace the other day.
He's angry. And owies from getting beat up. But mostly angry, and planning the death of one Barty Crouch Jr.

Evan is chilling in his dorm, flicking through a dirty magazine a dark arts spellbook.
