The Old Defence Room

Evan leans down and grabs her chin in his hand - not hard enough to hurt, not not particularly gently, either. He forces her to hold his gaze as it burns into her.

"I don't fuckin' care if your head is about to fuckin' explode. Now think harder. Why didn't you beat me?"

"Because you're better than me! I don't know! My focus was shit!" she almost yelled, but she knew that would get her into trouble. "You're hurting me..."

He lets her chin go and throws his hands up in the air, as if he's throwing her a victory parade for finally getting somewhere.

"Exactly! I'm better than you! You started out thinkin' you were gonna lose, and you lost. You gotta leave that shit behind, Pen, or you're always gonna lose. You gotta think of your wand, and their wand, and you gotta think about nothin' else but what's comin' at ya, and what you're gonna do to stop it. You get it?"

she nods her head "Alright. fine. i'll try to remember that" she mumbled. she felt stupid

Evan jumps up, ignoring Penny's obvious exhaustion.

"Don't try - do it, and get it right. Up, Pen, you're not done yet."

she looked up at him, slightly afraid. "o-okay?" she stood up warily, and gripped her wand in her hand tightly

He moves back into place, and gestures for her to do the same.

"Go again, and we're going to keep going until you learn."

Penny sighed and moved back into her starting position, wand at the ready.

Evan arches an eyebrow.

"You're waiting for me to move? Seriously? Have you learned nothing so far!?"

"Stupefy!" she pointed her wand at her brother. it had been her plan to get him hopefully off guard

"Shit! Protego!"

He blocks the spell at the last moment, then laughs.

"Atta girl, Pen! Expelliarmus!"

she twirled out of the way just in time "Oppugno!" she sent birds flying towards Evan

[MARCUS JUST KISSED DOM! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!]

Evan grinned as Penny started to show a little fire, dodging her spells with relative ease, but impressed all the same. He'd been planning to work up to the harder stuff, but he was willing to roll with it.

"Stupefy!"

[WHOOOOO]

Penny tried to dodge the curse but was hit on the arm and flew backwards

[*growls angrily* I KNEW HE WAS NO GOOD FOR YOU!]

Evan watches as Penny flies back, ending up crumpled on the ground. He moves quickly over, checking her for injuries but finding nothing major. She'll be a little bruised and battered, but there's not much he can do about that.

"Enervate!"

Not very gently, because he doesn't know how to be gentle, but as gently as he can manage, he helps her back to her seat.

"Enough, for now."

Penny sits up, panting and looks around. "wuh-water?" she manages to get out

He smirks.

"You lost, little sis."

But he conjures a goblet and fills it with water anyway, handing it over.

she glared at him and snatched at the goblet, taking a huge sip. "yea well...I'll have to be faster next time I guess"

He shrugs.

"Yeah, you will. If you reckon you can. Not gonna go so easy on ya next time, y'know."

she shrugged "yea yea yea whatever." she took another sip of water.

He claps a hand on her shoulder, rough as all his movements are.

"Don't be a cheeky bitch. Not gonna help you out any, Pen."

she glared at him "Evan. I've learned this in my DADA classes. I don't know why you feel the need to go over these basic spells!"

He glares icily.

"Learnin' this shit in DADA ain't the same and you know it. And we're gonna go over these fuckin' basic spells until you can use 'em in a real duel without fucking up and gettin' your arse kicked, you hear me? Right now you wouldn't last one fuckin' minute against anyone out to get ya, you know that?"
