The Old Defence Room

Evan walks in and looks around the room. It's got a desk at the front, and a couple of chairs, but other than that, it's a big empty space. Perfect for what he needs. He nods, satisfied, and sits at the desk to scribble a note to his sister. He flicks his wand - the parchment folds itself into a paper aeroplane and zooms off to find Penny. He kicks his feet up on the desk and waits.

Penny walked in and saw Evan. "Uhm, hey there Evan."

[shit. have to set the table.]

[......... Defence? Evan really is affecting you if the Mya part of your brain didn't catch that misspelling.]

[no worries XD]

The moment Penny walks through the door, Evan, still with his feet propped up on the desk casually, shoots a spell at her. Nothing painful, or dangerous... not yet, anyway. She's got to work up to the more advanced stuff, yet.

"Expelliarmus!"


[I'm Australian, you nitwit, we spell things with C's instead of S's, sometimes. We also often use S's instead of Z's, if you hadn't noticed]

[Well fine, I don't know these things. You are in fact the first Australian I have ever met in my life, so I have not been educated on what nonsense you guys do to your words. I indeed hadn't noticed. I'M SORRY.]

Penny's wand flew out of her hand. she was caught off guard "What the hell was that?!"

[I'm glad you didn't post that apology from your other account. I might have been frightened.... Apology accepted. ]

Evan stood up in a fast, fluid movement.

"That is what happens when you're not ready."

He summons her wand and tosses it back to her.

"Next time, don't be caught off guard, you hear? First thing we gotta do is see where you're up to. You ever done any duelin' before?"

she stared at him. "well how was i supposed to know my own brother was going to try to attack me!" she grumbled "i haven't really been in a duel before, no..."

He's kind of relieved to hear that at least she's never been in a duel before he's had a chance to teach her how to stick up for herself, but he keeps his face set and hard.

"That's my point, Pen. Don't ya get it!? You ain't ever gonna know who is gonna attack until they've done it! You gotta be ready, you hear? Well, we'll start from the basics. I mean, I ain't teachin' ya all that 'bow to your opponent and take ten paces' shit, because it's stupid and if anyone ever challenges you to a duel I expect you to skip the pleasantries and get them before they get you. But I wanna see what you got, so let's start with Disarming. You know it?"

she nodded her head slowly. this must have been what he was talking about at the dance about training. "yes of course i know how to disarm! Expelliarmus!" she pointed her wand at Evan

[gotta run an errand! be back in like, 20ish minutes hopefully!]

Evan stands still, to see if her aim is accurate. It's not bad, not bad at all and his wand flies out of his hand, clattering to the ground a little ways across the room. He nods as he goes to retrieve it.

"Alright. Now, let's see if you can do it under pressure."

Without another word, he shoots green sparks from his wand as a distraction, and follows it up with another quick should of "Expelliarmus!"

[no worries - I'm here for another couple of hours, then I'm at work so I'll be patchy then ]

Penny's heart pounded a bit from the stress but managed to throw the disarming spell, hopefully it would hit it's mark "Expelliarmus!"

[just kidding. now i have to eat dinner xP so i'll be back as soon as i can!]

Evan dodges and starts moving across the room - most people don't stand still and wait for you to fire so she needs to get used to moving targets, and quickly. He continues to fire, alternating randomly between the distractions and the real spells. He wonders how long she'll manage to fight him off for - she looks shaky already, but there's always that element of surprise to his little sister. She doesn't look like much, but there's steel buried somewhere in her spine, and he intends to teach her to use it.

"Come on, Pen! You gotta be faster than that!"

[I AM BACK!]

Penny tried her best to keep her eye on Evan, running around the room to keep him within a close enough distance to shoot spells. sometimes the distractions got the better of her though, and she found herself trying hard to keep up with him

Evan raises his eyebrows slightly. He can tell she won't last much longer, but damn, she's done better than he expected. He dodges another couple of Disarming spells, grinning to himself. This was always fun. He watched her movements, taking careful aim even as he danced around out of range, and pointed his wand right where her next step would be.

"Expelliarmus!"

Penny felt her wand fly out of her hand once more and she sighed. she looked at him, slightly defeated. she disappointed herself

[I decided he's going kinda easy on her today.... next time, she's REALLY going to hate him, though!]

Evan summoned her wand once more, then turned to seat himself on the desk at the front of the room. He looked at his sister for several long seconds - panting slightly, dishevilled and with an air of defeat - then pointed wordlessly to one of the chairs.

"What did you learn from that, Pen?"

[awww i was all excited. lol]

"uhh that i should take better aim?" she cocked an eyebrow

[lol sorry - I'm not feeling that well still, and I have to get ready for work in 15 mins because I have to go in today. he's going to be assholeish in this conversation, if that helps???]

He stares impassively back. True, but...

"Don't get smart with me, Pen. Now fuckin' think about it. Why did you lose?"

[aww *hugs* feel better! *waits anxiously to be tormented* lol]

Penny stared at him. "uhh, my focus?"

He nods, but does not show any form of encouragement, any sign of approval.

"Yeah, your focus turns to shit under pressure. Why else?"

"i don't know! my head hurts!" she sighed. she couldn't focus
