Hi! Basically, I'm new and I have no idea what I'm doing...

So, hello everyone! I feel really nervous like I have to stand up in front of the class or something. Anyway, I joined because it's Harry Potter related, pretty much. Huge fan! Also, everyone can spell and it's one of the most beautiful things on the Internet.
Anyway, my point is, what the hell do I do next? There's something about names and houses and role plays, none of which I have any idea about, but everyone seems nice and I'm bored. Pleeez help! :)

Feel free to ask myself or any of the other House Mods (our names appear in blue) any questions as you get settled in! A lot of what happens on AWF revolves around the roleplays. I think somewhere around the site, if you want to join the roleplay, there's a list of still available characters, and probably someone else will post it because I'm too lazy to go find it. While you don't have to roleplay, it is sort of the central point of this site. To join a house, you go up to the lighter purple bar and click on "usergroups." Then you choose whichever one you want. A moderator will have to accept you into the house, so the house won't show up right away. Your name will change colors, and you'll be able to see the section of the forum your house is. Moderator's names, for future reference, are in this weird teal light blue turquoise-y color.

Just a warning, though, we are restarting our entire roleplay, switching and trading characters and everything, at the beginning of September (someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't pay attention). So someone after me please post the link to the list of characters already taken for that, and you can choose from whoever's not there.

THE BILLY MAYES KEY IS FUN TO USE FOR EMPHASIS. ACTUALLY, WE USE IT IN NORMAL EXCITED CONVERSATION AROUND HERE. IT MAKES NORMAL WRITING FEEL LIKE WHISPERING, AND PRETTY SOON THE VOICE IN YOUR HEAD WILL NOT READ THIS AS YELLING, BUT AS NORMAL SPEECH.

Is there a history behind the naming of the BILLY MAYS KEY?

Well, assuming you've heard of Billy Mays, he always yells. And the caps lock writing looks like yelling, so it naturally fit. You know, with the whole "HI BILLY MAYS HERE" and always seeming like he's speaking more loudly than necessary.

Oh yeah haha, ALLLLL of his commercials were like that. You could check him out on youtube, haha. But yep, that was how he did his commercials, yelling stuff excitedly. People really liked him, or at least liked making fun of it and saying HI BILLY MAYS HERE. He was sort of an icon for infomercials I guess you could say.

Ooh yay! Does everyone have multiple accounts? Doesn't it get annoying signing in on loads of different names?

Most people do have multiple accounts, but so that we don't have to sign in and out too much we typically use different internet browsers for our different characters so we can just stay logged in. Like using Firefox for one, Safari for another, Internet Explorer for another, whatever you might have.
