His Dark Materials
So, I'm rereading all three for a paper that's due tomorrow, which I'll probably turn in Wednesday instead, but I was just wondering if any of you guys have read 'em, and if you had anything to say.
I'm almost done with The Golden Compass right now, then onto the next, I guess.
Anyway, I love these books, and I'd actually appreciate it if someone Christian could give me their take on this, out of curiosity and to help me with my paper. Yeah.

Re: His Dark Materials
I loved them. I thought he got a little too vehemently anti-religion at the end, and some of it confused me. Like the Adam and Eve and the Snake and all of that in the third book. I read them awhile ago, so I can't really remember more than that.

Re: His Dark Materials
I cried hardest when Lyra and Will had to separate, but sat on the bench that exists in both worlds. I was a mess for days.

Re: His Dark Materials
BATHLAMOS' MOURNING
IT KILLS ME INSIDE
IT KILLS ME SLOWLY, HOW HE REMINDS ME OF REMUS AFTER SIRIUS DIED
THROWING HIMSELF INTO DANGER, WHEN HE ISN'T MADE TO FIGHT
OMGGGGG
-sobs as Bathlamos flees-

-hugs- THAT IS SUCH A SAD PART.
I REMEMBER BEING ALL SAD, AND CONFUSED, AND SLIGHTLY SCANDALISED SINCE I READ THE SERIES IN LIKE, SEVENTH GRADE AND MOST OF IT WENT OVER MY HEAD.

Re: His Dark Materials
FUCK, I DON'T UNDERSTAND HALF THIS STUFF *NOW*
YOU SHOULD READ THIS AGAIN, IT'S SO DIFFERENT FROM THE FIRST TIME I READ THE FIRST TWO BOOKS, SO MUCH MORE MEANING...
... I really don't like the chapters about Mary. They bore me.
Also I am in love with Will, does that make me a pedo?

Re: His Dark Materials
.... I liked the film.
And I will most definatly be adding this to my must read list which is rather long.

Re: His Dark Materials
The Golden Compass?... I thought it did. WELL I LOVED THE MOVIE CALLED THE GOLDEN COMPASS ANYWAY.
Re: His Dark Materials
It's supposed to be based off the book, but it's as similar as Half Blood Prince is to its movie.
Re: His Dark Materials
Oh! In that case I must read the book because the film is obviously more relatable to star wars.
That made more sense in my head, but I am to tired to go and change it.

Re: His Dark Materials
YOU SHOULD READ THE BOOKS!
They're really, really, really good. And with that I go to finish the last one, which has traumatized me as much as Fred's death.
THAT UPSET.

Re: His Dark Materials
Now you've said that I HAVE to.
But I still have to finish LOTR.
Read 2 history books: Hitlers Willing Excutioners, and, Death and the Virgin
FinIsh: The Great Gatsby and TKAMB (Its a sense of pride)
Read The Hunger Games (trilogy)
Schindlers list
AND NOW THIS.

Re: His Dark Materials
THIS IS A LOT MORE EXCITING AND THRILLING AND FUN TO READ THAN ANY OF THOSE BESIDES LOTR.
Re: His Dark Materials
I finished it.
I'm still crying.
I can't even... this hurt more, than when Harry pulled out the resurrection stone when walking to his death.
This was worse.

Re: His Dark Materials
It's certainly on my long list of books to read as well. Ironically, I started the Amber Spyglass, but I didn't like it much. I was only about 12, so I want to try it again - also, it's the last book in the trilogy (it was a present, so I don't have the other two)...
The movie is also on my list, but only because I knew the lead actress...
The movies are never like the books, unfortunately.
